Cheat the Blue Screen? Yes… yes you can!

We’ve all been there. The famous (and dreaded) Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). It seems to only come around when you are in the middle of something important. Blue Screens are not only frustrating… they can be disruptive to an already busy day.

Pre-Covid, about one in 200 devices would crash under normal use. Somehow, that number shot up to one in ten devices post-Covid.

So what’s the deal? Why all the crashes?

And more importantly, how can you reduce the risk? Well, let’s start with the good news: Half of these blue screens are entirely avoidable. The bad news is that many small businesses don’t have the tools or any form of strategy in place to prevent them.

Why? Recent studies show that only a few common issues cause these BSODs. Problematic hardware, poorly managed Windows updates, and misconfigured drivers for things like graphics cards, networks, and audio systems are among the top culprits.

In other words… something ain’t right. And the computer is asking for help in cryptic codes that nobody even remotely understands.

Meanwhile, you have a client on the phone, and you have to start your stalling dance while praying that the computer can come back. Are any of us even good at that? 🙈

So what’s the answer? Think of it this way… why does anyone change the oil in their cars or spend the big money to change their car tires?

It’s not because we like to do it. It’s because we have to. We are doing these things to help prevent larger issues from happening.

Sure, we can clean our computers with special cleaners, but sometimes those tend to do more harm than good. The right way is to monitor the health of your computer systems for the very problem areas that lead to the blue screens in the first place.

With the right preventative maintenance, businesses could cut the number of BSOD incidents in half, reducing the occurrence to about one in 400 devices. This puts your staff on more productive projects rather than putting out fires.

The long and short of this is… you need an IT department. A good one that monitors all of their systems in real-time.

If you don’t have an IT department or are tired of how that department could be missing the issues that they should be stopping.. let us know. Our approach is a proactive one. In other words, preventing problems before they can interrupt your groove at work.

And nobody wants to throw you off that groove. 😉
