The big tech giants have had trouble getting Work From Home employees to come back into the office.
Dell championed their employees to work from home, especially during the pandemic. But Dell seems to want them back.
Dell put out an initiative in February to bring their employees back into the office by giving them two options: Keep working from Home (or) consider a Hybrid approach (pretty please).
The hybrid approach requires working at least 39 days a quarter in the office. Oh… and you will be subject to a tracking system to make sure you stay true to this. Deal?
BUT… if you decide to stay remote, then you will NOT be considered for any other position or promotion.
In this scenario, close to half chose to remain remote.
When asked, employees said that they valued their free time. Others said it was less strain on their finances. One thing is for sure… little could convince them to go back to the office.
Especially when Dell is spread out all over the globe. So even if folks decided to go back to the office.. they would still be subject to Zoom calls.
What would you choose? I think I would hands-down choose to work from home. I’m sure some of the Dell execs are peddling this initiative…. from their homes.
Stanford did a working study to see if there was a loss of productivity when working from home. The result was marginal, with only a 10% drop. But when you consider that a business could save on expensive office space… the savings speak for itself.
