One of the most interesting cybersecurity statistics that I find is when it comes to how people use passwords.
And shocker… it’s the younger tech-savvy employees with the alarming stats.
Here’s what we found. Over 6,500 employees were surveyed… and those under 40 were more likely to disregard or ignore standard password guidelines.
Ready for this: 34% admitted to using their BIRTH DATES as passwords, compared to only 19% over 40.
You may be guilty over this next one.
About 38% of the younger employees surveyed admitted to using the same password everywhere. You don’t do this right?
The same crowd, about 23%, didn’t even report the last phishing attack they received. They said they didn’t think it was important.
On that same note… only 23% of the younger workers admitted that ransomware and phishing were critical threats. Only 23%!!!
What’s worse is that a considerable number of those surveyed said their workplace didn’t provide any mandatory cybersecurity training:
- 30% – United States
- 17% – the UK
- 32% – Netherlands
- 35% – Japan
- 31% – India
- 22% – Germany
- 43% – France
- 29% – Australia
- 65% – China
In defense of the younger workers… how would they know about any of this when their place of work isn’t training them on cybersecurity awareness?
It’s about time that we changed the tide and started the cybersecurity training that everyone needs. And I mean EVERYONE, from the executives to HR and to everyone down the line.
When you break it all down.. it’s not just about helping your business stay aware… it’s about fostering a safer digital environment for everyone.
